Inside the West Gate Tunnels - Final concreting

Crews are doing the final sections of concreting for the road people will drive on in the West Gate Tunnels. Steel is used to strengthen the concrete planks, before concrete is poured. There will be further works to complete the massive fit out including installing architectural panels, electrical and safety systems.

Currently there are not many options for getting from the west to the city and beyond besides the West Gate Bridge, which is currently at capacity. The West Gate Tunnel Project will create an alterantive to the West Gate Bridge, giving people coming from the west another way to get to workplaces, hospitals and univerisiteis in the north of the CBD.
Wyndham and Melton electrification would have moved so many more people for less money 🤦🏻 And don’t even get me started on how much of an upgrade a few tweaks to increase the rail freight capacity would have been over this future car park…

This is an immigration problem, simply too many people in Melbourne
What a flawed project. No mention whatsoever of the traffic congestion that's going to occur at the Racecourse Road off ramp in Flemington where traffic that comes off the West Gate Tunnel will come to a standstill because there isn't going to be a tunnel built that will connect from Citylink to the Eastern Freeway to compliment having this road there in the first place.
Is the hyde street exit an option for trucks to avoid using tolls, if that's the case well thought out!!!
I don’t think so, only because the tolls make them too much money, but definitely an interesting thought!
Rhetorically speaking, I wonder how many motorists from the western suburbs will take this new road to Wurrundjeri Way into the city, instead of queuing at Power St. Could be the best bit road we’ve had in years.
I wonder if any of the rock etc excavated could have been used to to create the concrete blocks used in the tunnel/s.

Bunch of incompetent, useless morons. This was supposed to be finished this year, 2022. But as always, instead of finishing in 2022; the whole project won't be finished until 2025. I'm 26 now; I will be 30 ~ 31 by the time this is finished. Hopeless Victorians going nowhere since the end of 2019.
Yup 5 x the original cost and triple the time to complete.
It's really just double the original cost and 3 years late for completion. Mostly due to soil contamination issues, which took forever to resolve.

I sure do wish the United States could build great stuff like this. Meanwhile we can’t even build a 4 mile tunnel and a critical infrastructure project to build a viaduct for HWY 37 in San Fran will take 20 years to build and its half of the size of this project. Lots of awesome infrastructure going on in Australia, it's a shame this particular project is delayed by a few years due to soil issues just before the tunnelling phase. Now it's looking like it's back on track for completion by 2025.

Yeah squiggly cycling ramps to match the squiggly spaghetti junction. This is Transurban's pet project. Its another East West link, the money should of better spent (1.5 billion) on Werribee line extension to Wyndham Vale. Any spare change can go into adding more stations on RRL.
